Israeli aircraft carried out three airstrikes in the northern Gaza Strip on Saturday, the army said, destroying an empty building used by Palestinian militants during rocket attacks and damaging two open fields. There were no reports of casualties.
The army said militants had used the targeted building for cover after firing homemade rockets into southern Israel. Palestinian security officials said the Israeli missiles fell in a nearby field, but witnesses said the building suffered some damage. The officials said no one was hurt in the attack.
The other air strikes targeted an open space and a soccer field. The army said there had not been any rocket fire from the two fields, but that it wanted to deter possible attacks after an increase in rocket launches from Gaza in recent days. |
