Israeli troops shot and killed on Monday an armed Palestinian militant during an arrest raid in Bethlehem, the army said.
Raed Abayat, 31, a member of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, a terrorist group tied to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah Party, was armed with an assault rifle, the army said. Troops saw that Abayat, hiding in an apartment in Bethlehem, was armed, and shot him before he had a chance to open fire, the army said.
A second Al-Aqsa member who was hiding with Abayat was arrested, Palestinian security officials and the army said.
