The new Palestinian foreign minister from Hamas said Tuesday he has been invited to visit China as part of a planned swing through Asia next month.
The foreign minister, Mahmoud Zahar, announced the trip after meeting with the Chinese representative to the Palestinians, Yang Wei Guo.
Many countries have said they would shun the new Hamas government, sworn in last week, because the Islamic militant group refuses to recognize Israel and to renounce violence. However, Zahar has received invitations from several Arab countries, including Egypt, which he plans to visit next week.
His trip to China next month would be the first to a non-Arab country. |
