Israeli troops on Sunday killed a senior Palestinian terrorist during a shootout that erupted as they tried to arrest the man, the army said.
Troops located the man inside a building and called on him to come out. When he exited the building, he opened fire with an automatic weapon. Troops fired back and killed him, the army said. An AK-47 assault rifle was found on the man's body, the army said.
The army said the man was a wanted member of the Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, a terrorist group linked to President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah Party. Military officials declined to reveal his identity.
Palestinian security officials were not immediately available for comment.
