Palestinians and Israeli police clashed in east Jerusalem on Sunday over the purchase of a house by Jews in a mostly Arab neighborhood of the city, a police spokesman said.
Early Sunday, a small group of Palestinians entered the home, which Jews moved into last month, Shmuel Ben-Ruby, the Jerusalem police spokesman, said. When police arrived to evacuate the Palestinians, dozens of neighborhood residents clashed with police, wounding four officers, Ben-Ruby said.
Four Arab residents of east Jerusalem were arrested, he said.
The property, in the largely Arab neighborhood of A-Tur, was purchased several months ago by Elad, a nonprofit organization that buys Arab properties in east Jerusalem for Jews to settle in. Such purchases often touch off riots and generate animosity among the Palestinian residents of the disputed city.
