The Gaza Strip's main gateway to the outside world was closed Wednesday following an Israeli security alert in the area, European monitors at the crossing said.
European monitors at the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt were not able to reach their jobs because Israel had closed a different crossing nearby due to a security alert, and wouldn't let them through, said Nigel Milverton, a spokesman for the monitors.
The Israeli army confirmed Wednesday that it had closed Kerem Shalom due to fears of an attack. |
