Israeli forces entered the West Bank city of Ramallah on Sunday night and arrested a Hamas lawmaker, Palestinian security officials and witnesses said.
Witnesses said about 10 Israeli military vehicles entered the city, which serves as the West Bank administrative capital, and detained the legislator, Fadel Salah. The Israeli military had no immediate comment.
A day earlier, Israeli forces arrested Abdel Aziz Duaik, the speaker of the parliament, also a Hamas member. Israel now has 33 Hamas lawmakers and Cabinet ministers in custody.
Israel began rounding up Hamas representatives as part of its offensive against the Islamic militant group now running the Palestinian government after Hamas-linked gunmen tunneled under the border from Gaza and attacked an Israeli army post on June 25, killing two soldiers and capturing a third. |
