The IDF intercepted a Hezbollah drone over northern Israel on Monday, after detecting it crossing the border. The drone was shot down by a fighter jet over Israeli waters 6 miles west of Akko (Acre).
The Navy retrieved fragments of the downed drone. Channel Two reported that the drone was booby-trapped with as much as 45 kilos (100 pounds) of explosives. It is suspected that the remote controlled device was aimed at a sensitive industrial or military installation, possibly in Haifa bay.
The last time a Hezbollah drone flew over Israel was received on the eve of the Ariel Sharon ? George W. Bush White House summit in April 2005.
Hezbollah said at the time that the drone photographed 18 communities in northern Israel, including the coastal cities of Nahariya and Akko.
