The Israeli government is offering some 17,000 Israelis to leave border downs for several days, a senior official said Tuesday.
In making the announcement, Cabinet Secretary Yisrael Maimon avoided the word "evacuation," saying instead that the residents were offered to leave the war zone for several days of recuperation. The government will pay for the stay of those leaving the border area.
Until now, residents had made their own arrangements for getting out of the danger zone. In the hard-hit border towns, conditions have become increasingly difficult. Underground bombshelters are cramped and many of those left behind are those too poor to leave. |
