An Israeli was shot to death Saturday afternoon east of the West Bank city of Nablus. An armed Palestinian fired towards a group of Israelis near the B'kaot checkpoint, on the road linking the Jordan Valley with the hotbed of terror activity.

IDF soldiers returned fire, killing the Palestinian assailant.

The gunman approached the checkpoint and opened fire from 10 meters, mortally wounding the Israeli. Medical crews pronounced the Israeli dead at the scene. Security officials arrested a Palestinian taxi driver suspected of transporting the gunman to the scene and who may have been involved in the shooting as well.
