Four Palestinian militants were killed early Monday in an Israeli airstrike on central Gaza, Palestinian doctors said.
The four men were standing on a street in the Shajaiyeh neighborhood of Gaza City when a missile hit them, witnesses said. The four were severely burned and dismembered and killed, Palestinian doctors said.
The Israeli army spokesman said that troops operating in the area shot and killed three armed Palestinians in an exchange of fire. It did not know of a fourth man killed.
Israeli troops had been operating in Shejaiyeh since Saturday. Israel stepped up raids and airstrikes in Gaza after a June 25 raid by Hamas-linked militants, who tunneled into Israel, captured a young Israeli soldier and took him back to Gaza. |
