Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah declined to emerge from his bunker on Thursday to celebrate his 46th birthday. Egypt's Al-Ahram newspaper, citing a Hezbollah source, said that Nasrallah turned down a request from various organizations to celebrate his birthday in the Da'ahiyeh neighborhood of south Beirut, an area ravaged by Israeli bombs.

Israeli air force sources expressed disappointment at not having the opportunity to "help blow out Nasrallah's candles."

Nasrallah said that he preferred to celebrate with his "warriors" when security conditions made it possible to do so.

On Tuesday Prime Minister Ehud Olmert had mocked Nasrallah saying, "I walk around freely, and he's still hiding in a bunker."

Nasrallah's popularity poll ratings, however, have risen while Olmert's have plunged.
