Lebanese prime minister meets EU lawmakers

Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Siniora visits the European Parliament for talks with senior EU lawmakers, amid the EU assembly's call for sustainable peace and a comprehensive settlement to the conflict in the region.

Siniora was scheduled to meet later Wednesday with chairmen of the parliament's political groups and the assembly's president, Josep Borrell, who visited Lebanon two weeks ago.

EU contributions to Lebanon's reconstruction following a month of fighting between Lebanon-based Hezbollah guerrillas and Israel this summer total around $422 million, and EU nations have said they would contribute around 7,000 peacekeepers to bolster the U.N. mission in southern Lebanon.
