Israel's under-21 team has qualified for the first time to European Championship Football tournament next year. The team, coached by Guy Levy, beat France's under 21 team 1-0 scored by Amir Taga in the 93rd minute of the game.

The French team, which had won the under-19 world championships two years ago, and includes players who play for the top professional teams in Europe, were heavy favorites to qualify.

The tournament will take place in 2007 in Holland. The top four teams from that tournament will automatically qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008.

Earlier on Wednesday, Israel's under 19 squad defeated Slovenia 3-0 and qualified to the European semi-final tournament in their age group
