A young Israeli Arab woman was charged Sunday with cooperating with Palestinian militants in the West Bank to carry out a bombing in Israel.
Prosecutors said Warud Kassem, 20, of the Israeli town of Tira, traveled over the summer to the West Bank, where she met with members of the Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades and agreed to help the militant group smuggle a bomb into Israel.
The indictment said Kassem joined the "Fatah Hawks" militant group, and agreed to help the militants find a location in Israel to bomb.
According to the indictment, she transported militants and a bomb inside the West Bank. Prosecutors said Kassem became nervous and refused to transport the attackers into Israel, but put them in touch with a Palestinian cousin who was ready to help.
Kassem was charged with having contacts with an enemy, aiding and abetting the enemy, contacts with a foreign agent, illegal transport of weapons and membership in a terror organization.
A handful of Israeli Arabs have been charged with involvement in helping Palestinians carry out attacks since violence erupted in late 2000. |
