Citizens of enemy states have apparently finagled their way around the whole "diplomatic blockade" against Israel, using the one language that requires no words -- pornography. That's right, Jewish porn straight from the holy land.
Executives at Israeli sex sites report that about ten percent of their visitors are from Jordan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, according to Ynet. The hit -- clips starring female soldiers and Mossad women. One website, Ratuv (wet), actually translated all its text into Arabic, and saw the number of Arab visitors skyrocket as a result.
Gil Naftali, owner and operator of the Hebrew sex site SexV, said that many of his Arab visitors come from countries where pornography is illegal, like Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Jordan, Egypt, and the Palestinian Authority.
"We get hundreds of hits from surfers that live in countries where porn is prohibited," Naftali said. "We don't have an Arabic version because users log in to watch photos and video clips that require no explanations."
The LA Times asserted that these websites could be providing its Arab visitors with a taste of freedom that their governments have taken away from them. The newspaper quoted Salman Rushdie as saying "pornography exists everywhere, of course, but when it comes into societies in which it's difficult for young men and women to get together and do what young men and women often like doing, it satisfies a more general need; and, while doing so, it sometimes becomes a kind of standard-bearer for freedom, even for civilization.|
Arab surfers often face technical difficulties in viewing the websites.
"In many places Israel is blocked, at times the entire suffix ".co.il" is blocked. Users connect through proxy servers and reach us that way," Naftali explained.
Could pornography be the language of peace and brotherhood?
"No, it's purely business," one website operator said. "Porn will not bring about peace but at least we get some money out of our enemies' pockets."
