Palestinian lesbians are slated to gather for a conference in Haifa at the end of March, but the event has already been denounced by Muslim leaders.
The conference is being held to mark the five-year anniversary of Asawat, a lesbian women's organization.
Knesset Members Ibrahim Sarsur and Abas Zkoor (United Arab List-Ta'al), the leaders of Israel's Islamic Movement, released a statement calling on "all respectable people from all communities and streams to stand up against preaching sexual deviance among our women and girls."
The organization has 85 members, most of whom live in Israel and the West Bank and Gaza.
The Islamic Movement statement also said, "We must not let this fatal cancer spread in our community."
Asawat stated that it was aware of the situation and would respond when appropriate.
The Southern Islamic Movement joined Orthodox Jewish groups in protesting the Gay Pride parade in Jerusalem.
