Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni ruled Sunday that the Palestinian Authority has no diplomatic immunity against facing lawsuits and other court action In Israel. More than 54 petitions against the PA have been filed in courts around Israel in connection with its involvement in terror attacks on Israelis.
But that could just be the beginning, given the more than 1000 Israelis who have been killed and tens of thousands wounded in terror attacks since the PA was formed.
"Since the PA is not a sovereign state, it does not merit the immunity granted to foreign countries according to international law," said the Foreign Ministry in a statement to the media.
Livni, who has publicly committed to transforming the PA into an independent state before the end of the year, did not explicitly suggests that would-be litigants hurry to file their claims.
