Knesset Member Arieh Eldad (National Union/ National Religious Party) discusses the Muslim culture of death and the dangers of Iran in Part Three of an interview with Pajamas Media. In this section, Eldad says the Muslim belief that killing the enemy is more important than one's own life is something Jews cannot relate to and says "we are living in a different world." He then discusses Iran, arguing that Iran has the mentality of a suicide bomber, in that it is willing to sacrifice the entire country in order to fulfill its mission. He explains that deterrence is an ineffective policy with this type of thinking.

PART THREE: A Dangerous World
Worshipping Death
There is a worship of death in the Muslim culture. And those who say Arab mothers are like Jewish mothers... they love their children... must remember a Palestinian member of the Parliament, a mother who sent two of her children to commit suicide and she blessed them in front of video cameras... "go and kill as many Jews as you can." So there is a difference. I don't know any Jewish mother in Israel or the Western culture who will happily send her children to commit suicide while killing the enemy even though it is the enemy. So those who say... "but eventually we are all human beings...", yes, but if they worship death and believe there are things greater than their own life and killing the enemy, killing the Jews is one of the justified targets in doing so, we are living in a different world.
Nuclear Iran: A Crisis Facing the West
The world right now is almost in the same situation that it was with Hitler in the late 1930's when everyone hoped this would be someone else's problem... the Czechs, the Poles... let's wait and it will disappear. It's not going to disappear, it will have to be dealt with sooner or later, and eventually if the world will not do the work, Israel will have to do it.
The Israeli Reality
I do not want to be the excuse of the free world to attack Iran with a nuclear weapon after Israel has been attacked by a nuclear weapon. The world will have to understand that Israel does not have a conventional option against Iran. We will not be able to eliminate Iran's nuclear industry with conventional weapons. Unless the world will do the job, Israel will have to do the job with whatever means that we have.
Deterrence: Not a Viable Option
First of all, if you have wave a big stick, the other side should be convinced that eventually you are ready to use it. And because of Iraq the Iranians are sure now that the United States will not interfere militarily.
The other way to understand why [deterrence] is not applicable to Iran is to understand that sometimes a state works on the same rational level as a suicide bomber. They are ready to sacrifice the entire state in order to fulfill the mission -- to fight imperialism, to fight the Western world, to fight Christianity, to fight Judaism, to fight everything that is not Muslim.
They will not be bent over just because we demand that they do so or because we put some commercial or financial pressure on them or that we threaten to hit them if they disobey. An external punishment sometimes is accepted as a prize, not as a punishment. |
