MK Yitzhak Ziv investigated for sexual assault against party activist

Police have decided to open a criminal investigation against MK Yitzhak Ziv of the Pensioner's Party after a party activist submitted a complaint last Thursday that he had sexually assaulted her.

According to the complainant, Ziv touched her against her will while she was at his house, shortly before the 2006 Knesset elections. She stated that the 69-year-old MK hugged her from behind, lifted up her shirt, grabbed her breasts, and threw her onto the bed. At that point she succeeded in leaving the house.

Cmdr. Yohanan Danino, the head of the police's Investigation and Intelligence Department, decided to launch the investigation into Ziv, and will be questioning him in the coming days.

The complainant explained that she did not make a complaint against Ziv sooner because she was afraid that such a act would harm the party. Pensioner Party chairman, Rafi Eitan, had advised her to report the act directly to the police, according to Ynetnews.

"I feel relieved after I spoke and saw that people are backing and encouraging me," said the complainant during the weekend. "But as far as I am concerned, this is not enough, until he is punished for his actions."

MK Ziv had rejected the allegations as "political revenge," and hired Wednesday attorney Zion Amir, former President Moshe Moshe Katsav's lawyer.

Ziv is the deputy Knesset speaker and a member of the Knesset's Economics Committee and Constitution, Law and Justice Committee.
