The district police in Judea and Samaria launched a criminal investigation on Thursday against a professor who was filmed wishing death upon the Hebron Division commander during Tuesday's Hebron evacuation of several hundred protestors.

The professor, Hillel Weiss, was filmed yelling, " May your mother be bereaved, your wife be widowed, your children be orphaned and may you be struck down in the next war and any memory of you be erased," according to Ynet.

The professor also said that security forces who removed the settlers from the area were "worse than the Germans," Haaretz reported.

Several officials have urged for an investigation on charges of inciting violence against the commander, Colonel Yehuda Fuchs.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak and Absorption Minister Yaakov Edrey both suggested separately that an investigation be carried out.

Weiss' statements also elicited responses from the general public, among whom wasa Modi'in resident who filed a complaint against the professor on Wednesday. The wife of one of the policemen who participated in the evacuation, Oshra Assaf, also filed a complaint.

"If there is a professor who wishes an army officer such things, we needn't be afraid of the situation in the Middle East, but rather of the rift among Israelis. He should be fired," she said.

In his defense, Weiss said "cursing is in the framework of the right to free speech. Rabbi Ovadia Yossef and soccer fans act in the same manner.

"Nobody has the moral right to investigate me. The police and army would be better off taking a look at their recent actions instead of investigating me. I don't care about this investigation," he continued.
