Four wanted Tanzim members were arrested Sunday morning in a joint Shin Bet and Israel Defense Forces operation. Two of the detainees were seized in possession of two explosive belts, and according to security forces they had planned to carry out a terror attack in Israel.

A source in the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades claimed that the detainees were recently in contact with Hizbullah.

The IDF reported that the two detainees are Yusuf Sahli, 21, and Darwish Shafai, 24, of the Balata refugee camp in Nablus.

Immediately after their arrest, the two were taken into a Shin Bet interrogation, during which they revealed details on the location of the explosive belts in the apartment they were hiding in.

The investigation also revealed that the two worked to recruit suicide bombers and to obtain explosive belts, and were involved in shooting attacks and in placing many explosive devices targeting IDF soldiers. The two also trained activists from the Gaza Strip.

Sources in Nablus told Ynet that the IDF has been pursuing the cell in the past few days, and that even before their arrest the IDF raided their homes in the Balata refugee camp.

20 army jeeps enter city
The other two Palestinians arrested were Mahmoud Abu-Hamed, 20, who was allegedly involved in Sahli and Shafai's activity and placed an explosive device targeting IDF soldiers, and Mahmoud Maher, 23, who was allegedly involved in photographing Mahmoud Said, a would-be suicide bombers arrested, ahead of his departure to carry out a terror attack.

According to the Associated Press, about 20 army jeeps entered the city early Sunday and surrounded a building.

Exchanges of fire erupted in the area and the sounds of gunfire and explosions were heard across the city for hours. Eyewitnesses in Nablus said that the wanted Palestinians turned themselves in after three hours.

On Saturday night, IDF soldiers arrested eight wanted Palestinians in Judea and Samaria (West Bank). Four Fatah activists were detained in Tulkarm, two Tanzim members were arrested in Ramalllah, a Hamas activist was detained in Beit Fajar, south of Bethlehem, and another Hamas member was captured in Hebron.

Last week, four Palestinian civilians were killed and 18 were wounded during an IDF operation in Ramalllah aimed at detaining wanted Palestinians.

The force was exposed during the operation, and four IDF soldiers were lightly injured as the rescue attempts were carried out.
