Wanted terrorist Zakariya Zubeidi, the Jenin commander of Fatah's military wing, the al-Aqsa Martyr's Brigades, was shot and wounded Saturday by IDF soldiers during an armed clash in the turbulent West Bank city, Palestinian sources reported.
Zubeidi was hit in the shoulder during the gunbattle and later listed to be in light-to-moderate condition.
IDF officials confirmed the clash between soldiers and the al-Aqsa gunmen, but claimed that Zubeidi was not specifically targeted.
Zubeidi is wanted in Israel for a number of terrorist attacks, and members of al-Aqsa have already threatened to exact revenge for what they have referred to as an "assassination attempt."
After being wounded, Zubeidi reportedly told Ynetnews from his place in hiding that his condition was good, and that his al-Aqsa men would "continue to battle the IDF as long as it invades Palestinian towns."
Last Thursday Zubeidi claimed that not even calls from PA President Mahmoud Abbas to stop attacks against the IDF could stop the group.
"There will be no calm between our group and the IDF even if Abu Mazen [Abbas] declares so," Zubeidi stated.
According to Zubeidi al-Aqsa's actions were in response to the IDF bringing fifteen heavy vehicles into Jenin, adding that his men detonated an explosive next to an army bulldozer, reported Ynetnews. No IDF injuries were reported.
In further action against the Israeli army, Palestinians in Nablus threw a homemade grenade at IDF soldiers operating in the area, though no injuries were reported.
The IDF also arrested two wanted Palestinians in Ramallah and Qalqilya.
