IDF troops, accompanied by helicopters and more than 15 tanks, entered southern Gaza Monday, as part of their continued effort to stop Qassam rockets, locate terror suspects and smuggling tunnels.
The troops entered about a kilometer-and-a-half into the Sufa Crossing area of the Gaza Strip and proceeded to search houses and arrest suspects. Army bulldozers were used to make the area difficult to launch rockets from.
According to Palestinian sources, the IDF asked all men ages 16 to 45 to gather in an field.
Defense Minister Amir Peretz told the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Monday that recent IDF operations have been successful in weakening Palestinian terrorists' ability to launch rockets, and that because of the operations, the terrorists' Qassams cannot reach Ashkelon.
Peretz said that the IDF would continue to aggressively act against Qassam launchings until the attacks ceased.
According to a report by Army Radio Monday, not one rocket was fired into Israel during the night and morning of Sunday and Monday. |
