An IDF officer is being suspended from operational duty after injuring a woman and her three children when he threw a tear gas grenade into their house near Ramallah, Ynetnews reported Thursday.

The woman and children were brought to an Israeli hospital after being lightly injured while breathing the gas.

"In the course of an operational activity of an IDF force in the village, the force hurled a grenade at a house. The house filled with gas, and its inhabitants needed medical attention and were later taken to a hospital in Israel," said the IDF Spokesperson Unit.

"The incident in question is very severe, and the IDF is investigating it. The officer involved was suspended from duty until the end of the probe.

"Following the incident, the Coordination and Liaison Unit contacted the family and was involved in their evacuation to the hospital, the Coordination and Liaison Unit is in touch with the family and will address their needs.

"An apology on behalf of the Brigade's commander has been relayed to the family," the unit concluded.

Ayed Mazlum, a member of the village council where the incident took place, called the IDF's District Coordination and Liaison Unit after the family contacted him and told him what had happened, and ambulances arrived shortly after.

"I hope that this phenomenon of soldiers abusing innocent residents in the village stops," Mazlum, citing a similar incident that happened about a month ago.

The IDF has been operating in both Gaza and the West Bank in continued efforts against terror cells and Gaza rocket-launchings. The Palestinian Authority has called for a ceasefire with Israel, but says it won't accept a ceasefire that doesn't include the West Bank, where Israel continues to operate.
