Israel Defense Force operations in Gaza have left at least 12 Palestinians dead, and wounded around 40 Wednesday.

Meanwhile, three Qassam rockets have been fired into Israel Wednesday from Gaza causing no injuries. Three mortars were also fired into Israel near Erez Crossing. No one was injured.

The IDF confirmed it was operating in the Gaza Strip to search for wanted militants, tunnels and explosive devices. The IDF said that the operations were directed at "negating threats."

According to IDF reports, the Israel Air Force fired at a group of Palestinian gunmen who were heading towards IDF troops operating in the area, and some gunmen were reportedly killed.

In an earlier operation near Khan Yunis, the IDF encountered fierce opposition and anti-tank fire when it entered Palestinian territory. According to the IDF at least two gunmen were killed.

According to Haaretz, Islamic Jihad militant Diya Abu Daka and Hamas militant Hussam Abu Ataima were killed in the fighting.

There was also an explosion in the area that killed Hamas militant Mahmoud A-Sha'ar and wounded several, though it is not clear if the explosion was caused by the IDF or if it was a due to militants mishandling explosives.

According to Hamas radio, top Islamic Jihad militant Ra'ad Fanuna was killed by an IAF strike on a vehicle in Gaza city. Ra'ad Fanuna is connected launching Qassams at Israel.

According to Haaretz, the following militants were killed in IDF operations Wednesday:

"29-year-old Sami Manasra and Yussuf Manasra of Islamic Jihad, 27-year-old Nafez Hilas and 18-year-old Ahmed Hilas of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, and 25-year-old Anan Al-Ararir and Yussuf Jakha of Hamas."

Palestinian sources reported that Hazem Jundiya, 25, and Wadib Jundiya, 9 were also killed by the IDF Wednesday, however, the IDF claims that all those killed were militants.

Earlier Wednesday, near the West Bank town of Jenin, IDF and border Police wounded three Islamic Jihad militants, Israel Radio reported.

According to the report, the three militants were also connected with Fatah and were responsible for attacks against security forced in the West Bank.

The three wounded militants, one of them moderately, were taken to a nearby hospital and await questioning from Shin Bet.

As the Israeli forces were operating in the area, Palestinians from the village threw an explosive device at the soldiers, causing no casualties.
