Iran has 600 Shihab-3 missiles pointed at targets throughout Israel that the Islamic republic said it will launch in the event of an attack on either Iran or Syria, the Jerusalem Post reported, citing an Iranian website associated with the government. The missiles have a range of 1,300 km and are capable of reaching all points within Israel.

"Iran will shoot at Israel 600 missiles if it is attacked," the Iranian news website, Assar Iran, reported. "600 missiles will only be the first reaction."

The report follows speculations that Iran and North Korea have been supplying Syria with nuclear material, a prospect that caused serious concern among officials in the West.

It also comes amid a months-long crisis over Iran's nuclear facilities, which it has spread all over the country to avoid a strike targeted at destroying the country's progressing nuclear capabilities.

Former United Nations ambassador John Bolton said Sunday that Israel's alleged military operation inside Syria earlier this month should be perceived as a 'clear message to Iran' that its nuclear efforts will not be ignored by the international community, according to Haaretz.

The US has chosen to use diplomatic channels to apply pressure on Iran to halt its nuclear activities.

"I think that the administration believes at this point that continuing to try and deal with the Iranian threat, the Iranian challenge, through diplomatic and economic means is by far the preferable approach. That's the one we are using," the Pentagon chief said. However the US has not ruled out a military strike.
