Palestinian policemen confessed to killing Ido Zoldan, 29, a father of two from the settlement of Shavei Shomron, in a drive-by shooting last week, the IDF and Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) revealed Sunday night.

Zoldan was killed the night before the Annapolis summit began, after his vehicle was shattered by rifle fire from another vehicle near the Arab village of al-Punduk.

The three members of the terror cell, it turns out, are Palestinian policemen and members of the Palestinian National Security Force, which Israel and the United States have been investing millions of dollars in as part of the international effort to strengthen Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and his Fatah government.

Olmert had ordered the news suppressed till after he returned from Annapolis, not wishing to sully the festivities with uncomfortable news that the investment in the Palestinian security force is paying off in dead Jewish daddies.

Sources in the IDF said they expected Israel's government to rethink its policy of strengthening Abbas while his policemen were involved in terrorism.

The policemen-by-day, terrorists by night who were arrested are Daper Barham and Abdullah Barahm, both 22-year-old Palestinian policemen and members of Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah organization. The third suspect and the cell's leader, Fadi Jama, also a policeman, was reportedly be in Palestinian Police "protective custody" in Nablus -- protection, that is, from the Israelis.

It is uncertain whether he will be turned over to Israel for trial. The Palestinian Authority does not consider attacking Israelis to be a crime, and routinely releases terrorists who have carried out attacks.

During their interrogation, the two confessed their involvement in the attack and handed over the weapon used in the shooting to the Shin Bet. They said that they had parked their car on the side of the road and waited for an Israeli car to pass. Once Zoldan's car appeared, they merged onto the road, passed him up and opened fire. They told investigators that they decided to carry out the attack to "scare settlers."
