A suicide bomber exploded inside a commercial center in Dimona in southern Israel, killing an Israeli woman and wounding nine, one critically, two moderately.
The south has been on high alert since the breaching of the Gaza-Egypt border. Two Palestinian groups took credit for the bombing, saying the bombers came from Gaza. Al-Aksa Martyrs' Brigades -- part of West Bank Chieftain Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah group -- showed films of the bombers shot before they embarked on their mission. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine also took credit.
Two bombers came together to the shopping center, but only one detonated. The other bomber, who was wounded in the initial explosion, was killed by an alert police officer as he lifted his hand to activate his explosive device. Superintendent Kobi Mor managed to shoot the bomber before he could detonate.
It is the first terror attack in the history of Dimona, the site of Israel's principal nuclear reactor, and the first successful suicide bombing attack in more than a year.
