Fatah sniper kills Israeli soldier on IDF base in Samaria
By israelinsider staff  October 19, 2004

Sgt. Yair Turgeman, 22, of Kiryat Arba was killed Tuesday afternoon in a shooting attack at an IDF base near the Samarian settlement of Mevo Dotan, south of Jenin.

Turgeman was hit by a burst of gun shots fired from long range at 5:30 P.M. as he was sitting in his tent.

The gunmen, who positioned themselves on a nearby hill, escaped. Soldiers could not identify the gunmen and did not return fire.

Turgeman was critically wounded in the stomach and, after being evacuated to Sheba Medical Center near Tel Aviv, died of his wounds.

Al-Aksa Martyrs' Brigades, a faction of PA Chairman Yasser Arafat's Fatah, claimed responsibility for the attack.
