IDF investigators are now reporting that reservist Tziki Eyal, 23, who was killed on the Halhoul Bridge hear Hebron last night, was shot in the head by IDF fire.

Apparently, a soldier manning the checkpoint with Eyal mistakenly shot him in the head and this was the cause of his death, not being run over by the Palestinian taxi driver, as believed earlier.

According to witnesses, the 30-year-old taxi driver, identified as Iyad Dwek -- who was after the incident, shot and killed by soldiers at the roadblock -- had driven nearby the IDF position on the Halhoul bridge before running Eyal over.

The reservists at the roadblock reported that the taxi was seen approaching, when Eyal stepped out to flag down the lone driver, for standard inspection.

At first the driver slowed, but suddenly sped up and drove straight at Eyal, running him over and critically injuring him. But the cause of Eyal's death was not the car attack.

The IDF has been on high alert in the vicinity of Hebron because thousands of Jews are expected to visit the Tomb of the Patriarchs on Tuesday, and the road below the bridge is used by Jewish settlers.
