Two people were killed and six were injured in a mortar attack on greenhouses at the Gush Katif settlement of Ganei Tal.
Defense officials said it was still unclear whether the explosion was caused by mortar shells or an explosive device planted at the settlement in the southern Gaza Strip .
An IDF helicopter was sent to the scene to evacuate the injured.
In addition, four mortar shells were fired at settlements and IDF outposts in the southern Gaza Strip. No injuries were reported, but damage was caused to several settlement structures.
The military wing of Islamic Jihad, the al-Quds Company, was quick to take responsibility for the attack. "At 1:55 p.m. we fired two Quds 2 rockets at the Zionist city of Sderot, which sits on Palestinian land that has been occupied since 1948. At 2:13 another cell fired two rockets at the Kfar Aza settlement."
The group said the rockets were in response to Tuesday's killing of senior West Bank operative Marwah Kamil during a gun battle near Jenin. The group also said in a statement that it would continue to it's holy war and would never cave in to sign an agreement of any type with Israel.
