Palestinian gunmen near Tul Karm opened fire on a van carrying two Israelis in an ambush early Monday, killing the 35-year-old driver and lightly wounding the 15-year-old passenger.
The Islamic Jihad terrorists fired from the sides of a road near homes in the village of Baka al-Sharkiyeh, a few hundred meters from the Green Line border of Judea-Samaria. The victims' car was coming from the nearby settlement of Hermesh.
Paramedics rushed the wounded passenger to Hillel Yaffe hospital in Hadera.
A spokesman from PM Ariel Sharon's office said the flareup of terrorist attacks shows that the Palestinian Authority needs to make a greater effort to curb violence against Israelis.
"This is proof that the Palestinian Authority must take all necessary steps to prevent such terror and uproot terror from within its ranks," spokesman David Baker said.
