By israelinsider staff and partners  June 30, 2005

Corporal Uzi Peretz of Be'ersheva was killed, and four comrades were injured in two linked incidents along the northern border. Hizbullah fired a round of mortar and anti-tank shells at an IDF outpost, wounding an officer and two soldiers and killing Cpl. Peretz. An elite unit identified a group of Hizbullah terrorists which had infiltrated the Mount Dov region. A soldier was injured in the ensuing gun battle. At least one Hizbullah fighter was killed.

One of the Hizbullah fighters was killed in the exchange, while others are believed to have been wounded.

The mortar barrage left one Golani soldier at the Dalia outpost, identified as Corporal Uzi Peretz of Be'ersheva, dead. And IDF officer was moderately wounded, and two Golani soldiers sustained light injuries in the attack.

Israel Air Force jets attacked Hizbullah positions in Lebanon after the incident.

Hizbullah confirmed that the armed wing of the Islamic Resistance carried out the attack on three IDF outposts in the Shaba Farms area, which the group claims is "occupied Lebanese territory," a characterization denied by Israel and the United Nations.
