Israeli man kidnapped and murdered by Hamas near Ramallah
By israelinsider staff and partners  September 26, 2005

An Israeli business man was found dead Monday near the West Bank town of Ramallah in what appeared to be a terror attack, police said.

The man, identified as Sasson Nuriel, 51, from Pisgat Zeev, had been missing since Wednesday, police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.

Public Security Minister Gideon Ezra said the killing was politically motivated, and that security forces had in recent days arrested several Hamas members near Ramallah on suspicion the militant group had kidnapped the businessman.

A Hamas activist who was arrested Sunday led the forces to the body in an industrial zone in the West Bank town of Beitunia near Ramallah, Rosenfeld said. Beituniya residents said they saw Israeli security forces arrive in the neighborhood Monday with a handcuffed man who led them to the site where the body was buried.

The Israeli army said Palestinians shot at the soldiers as they unearthed the body.

Ezra called on the Palestinian Authority to dismantle Hamas and other militant groups as required in the international "road map" peace plan.

Hamas is responsible for hundreds of attacks against Israelis in recent years, including deadly suicide bombings.

The AP contributed to the report.
