"Galil Freedom Brigades" takes credit for killing Israeli woman in Netanya
By Israel Insider staff and partners  October 24, 2005

A previously unknown Arab organization calling itself The "Galil Freedom Brigades" says it murdered Katie David, a 27 year-old security guard found Sunday in Netanya.

The group claimed responsibility in a phone call to the Palestinian News Agency, saying that the murder was intended avenge the killing of four Israeli Arabs in Shfaram in August by Jewish AWOL soldier, Eden Natan Zada, who was then lynched by a mob.

The group did not indicate whether it consisted of Arabs with Israeli citizenship or residents of Palestinian areas.

The group vowed to commit more killings in the future.

Police, however, have dismissed the claim, calling it "nonsense" and launched an investigation to determine whether criminal or terrorist motives were behind the attack.

"We are certainly dealing with murder and we are investigating if one of her friends were involved," said Brigadier General David Siso.

The battered body of David, who worked as a security guard in Netanya shopping mall, was discovered Sunday afternoon by a passer-by in brush near a gas station at the western entrance to the city.

Police believe David was murdered in a grove near the Hadera forest soon after she had finished working her shift at the mall around 11 pm on Saturday night.

Initial police findings, ynetnews reports, indicate that David had fought the assailant, or assailants, on a path through the forest.
