Israeli troops fired artillery into open fields in the northern Gaza Strip on Monday in response to a series of rocket attacks launched by Palestinian terrorists at Israel earlier in the day, the army said. Israel said the artillery was aimed at open fields that Palestinian militants used to fire the rockets. The army said it would continue to use all means at its disposal to prevent future rocket attacks. There were subsequent reports of air attacks on launch sites. There were no immediate reports of injuries from the artillery.
Islamic Jihad terrorists in the Gaza Strip fired a volley of rockets at Israel on Monday afternoon in what the group described as an "initial response" to the IDF's killing of one of their top commanders in Judea and Samaria. At least five Kassam rockets slammed into open areas near the town of Sderot in the western Negev, a few miles from Gaza. Witnesses saw the rockets fired, and the early warning system was activated. No casualties or damage has been reported from the rockets.
