Israeli aircraft strike northern Gaza, two Palestinian militants killed
By Associated Press June 11, 2006
Two Palestinian rocket launchers affiliated with the ruling Hamas party were killed on Sunday in an Israeli air strike, the militant group and hospital officials said.
The Israeli military confirmed that army aircraft had struck rocket launchers.
Three other militants were wounded in the attack on a field near the town of Beit Lahia, and three were wounded, hospital officials said.
On Saturday, Hamas called off a February 2005 truce after blaming Israeli shelling for the deaths of eight Palestinian beachgoers a day earlier. Before that attack, Hamas had renewed its involvement in homemade rocket fire at Israel.
Hamas killed more than 250 Israelis in attacks in the 4 1/2 years leading up to that truce.
The group's military wing said the militants attacked on Sunday had just fired two rockets when the missiles struck. The Israeli military could not immediately confirm that report.
