Israeli troops kill Palestinian as he plants explosives meant for soldiers
By Israel Insider staff and partners  July 4, 2006

Israeli troops shot and killed a Palestinian militant Tuesday in the West Bank town of Jenin, the army and a militant group said.

Troops had entered the town in an arrest raid when they were shot at by Palestinian militants and returned fire, killing one, the army said.

The Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, a violent group linked to President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement, said an 18-year-old member of the group was planting explosives against the troops when the Israeli soldiers killed him.

Later, a booby-trapped car set by the group exploded in the town about 200 yards from Israeli troops, but no one was injured, the group said.
