More than 60 katyushas have been fired into northern Israel since Thursday morning, landing in the northern Israeli towns of Karmiel, Hatzor, Safed, and Majd el-Kurum, as well as several other communities throughout the north Thursday afternoon.
Eleven people were wounded in the latest barrage. One person was critically wounded, one was in serious condition, and several suffered light injuries in the attacks by Hizbullah.
At least 90 Israelis have been wounded since the onset of Operation Just Reward Wednesday afternoon.
Residents of Israel's northern cities have been told to enter bomb shelters and security rooms.
Earlier Thursday, Katyushas fell in Safed's immigration center, old marketplace, Safed College and the Amit Center.
A 70-year-old Safed woman died of her wounds after arriving at the hospital, raising the civilian death toll to two.
Hospitals throughout the North were ordered to raise their readiness level to Level Three, the second highest possible. Medical teams were being ordered to remain at their posts in expectation of continued Katyusha strikes.
The Home Front command urged hikers in the north not to approach the border. Non-residents were encouraged not to go to Kiryat Shmona, Nahariya, Shlomi and the surrounding areas, pursuant to the escalating security situation.
Simultaneously, health and welfare offices in the northern region approach Dr. Yehoshua Ben-Israel, head of the Shoham Medical Center for Geriatric Medicine in Pardes Hana, and asked him to prepare for the absorption of approximately 100 elderly persons from Nahariya and neighboring communities, some who are being evacuated from their homes and some from nursing homes.
In the meantime, the IAF's intensive attacks on Lebanon continue. Lebanese news agencies reported 47 deaths. Hizbullah declared a direct threat on Haifa, implying that they will use long-range rockets at their disposal in the event that Beirut or its suburbs are attacked. In response, and IDF senior official told Ynet: "if Haifa is bombed, we'll topple buildings in Beirut."
At least two people were wounded at the immigration center. In all, there were two people seriously wounded from shrapnel, one resident's condition was defined as critical, with about a dozen lightly wounded and many more in shock.
The Jewish Agency reported that Katyusha rockets hit an absorption center in the city, lightly injuring a new immigrant from Ethiopia. The Village of Majdal Krum was also hit, and one of its residents was moderately injured. Loud blasts were heard in the city of Karmiel, which is 13 miles away from the border.
The Jerusalem Post and Ynet News contributed to this report.
