The burnt body of Dr. Daniel Yaacobi, 60, reported missing from his home in Yakir in Samaria from Thursday mid-day, was discovered stuffed in the trunk of a car near the Palestinian village of Haja east of Qalqilya. Security forces making the grisly discovery were fired on from the surrounding villages.

An initial investigation indicates that Yaacobi, father of four and grandfather of seven, gave a ride to a terrorist hitchhiker disguised as a religious Jew and was forced to drive at gunpoint to the spot where he was found. There a group of Palestinians murdered him and burned his vehicle.

Yaacobi's funeral, scheduled for Friday noon, is expected to draw thousands of people.

Another resident of Samaria, Eliyahu Asheri of Itamar, was similarly kidnapped and murdered last month.

Earlier in the evening, a Palestinian terrorist opened fire on Israeli border police and security officers at the Armon Hanatziv checkpoint in southern Jerusalem. Three officers were injured, one seriously. The terrorist was shot dead.
