Two reserve soldiers were killed in fighting in south Lebanon with Hezbollah guerrillas on Saturday. Army forces killed at least 50 Hizbullah guerillas over the weekend, the IDF said.
They were the first reserves to be killed in the Israeli offensive, which began July 12 after Hezbollah guerrillas crossed into Israel and attacked an army patrol killing three soldiers and capturing two others. The five were also reservists.
Cpl. Kiri Kashdan, 26, from Haifa, a reservist from Brigade Two, was killed when an anti-tank missile hit a building in which he was stationed in the southern Lebanese village of Ita A-Sha'ab Saturday afternoon, reported the Jerusalem Post. There were 21 other soldiers who were wounded, one seriously, the military said.
Capt. Dr. Igor Rothstein, 34, from Poriya Neve-Oved, also in the reserves, was killed by an anti-tank missile fired at ground forces on Friday during clashes in southern Lebanon.
Israel called up about 30,000 reservists over the past week.
Altogether, 46 Israeli soldiers have been killed in the conflict.
The AP contributed to this report.
