Fierce fighting rages between Hezbollah and IDF near border, 3 soldiers dead
By Israel Insider staff and partners  August 8, 2006

Fierce fighting between Hezbollah guerillas and Israeli forces raged in at least two locations in south Lebanon early Tuesday, killing three Israeli soldiers and wounding seven, the Israeli army said.

In the town of Bint Jbail, one Israeli soldier was killed and five others were wounded in fierce fighting, the army said. Israeli troops killed 15 Hezbollah guerrillas in the fighting, the army said.

Later, the army said two reserve soldiers were killed and another two were wounded during a gunbattle in the western sector of south Lebanon.

Hezbollah was not immediately available for comment. It has made only a few announcements of its casualties since fighting erupted nearly a month ago. Israel estimates that it has killed several hundred Hezbollah fighters.

Hezbollah TV reported guerrilla attacks on Israeli forces starting at 3:00 a.m. near the Mediterranean city Naqoura, some 2.5 miles north of the border, that killed and injured several Israeli soldiers.

The AP contributed to this report.
