Hezbollah fires almost 100 rockets at Israeli towns, one wounded
By Israel Insider staff and partners  August 9, 2006

One person was wounded and several were suffering from shock after a rocket barrage hit Safed on Wednesday afternoon. Damage was caused in several places in the North during afternoon barrages, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Hezbollah terrorists fired nearly 100 rockets at Israeli towns on Wednesday, including several medium-range missiles that landed near the West Bank town of Jenin and south of the Israeli city of Afula, police said.

By mid-afternoon, Hezbollah fired 97 rockets, but caused no casualties, said police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld.

Four long-range rockets were fired toward the Beit Shean region late Wednesday morning.

The rockets landed between Afula and Beit Shean, and no one was wounded in the attack.

The IAF immediately destroyed the launchers used to fire the rockets, near Tyre.

The Hizbullah continued its barrage on the North, as a number of missiles landed in the Haifa and Acre areas.

Sirens continued to sound in Tiberias, Zichron Ya'akov, Binyamina, Acre and Haifa's suburbs.

Five of the rockets landed near a Palestinian town in the West Bank on Wednesday, Palestinian security officials said. There were no casualties.

The rockets landed near the village of Arabani, on the Israel-West Bank frontier, the officials said. Clouds of smoke from the rockets could be seen 12 miles away in the town of Jenin, witnesses said.

Since Israeli-Hezbollah fighting erupted on July 12, several of the highly inaccurate Hezbollah rockets have landed in the West Bank. No Palestinians have been injured.

Around 150 rockets were fired at the North on Tuesday, wounding one person moderately and several others lightly.

The AP contributed to this report.
