No more automatic pass for the PA

From the very outset of the Oslo experiment, the Palestinians have been handicapped by well meaning proponents of an "automatic pass" approach to compliance.

But just as an automatic pass policy can condemn some students to never acquiring an education, the automatic pass policy for the Palestinians aided and abetted the development of the monstrosity that is the PA today.

Take a look beyond the smoke and mirrors of the current program, and nothing has changed.

Instead of actually destroying the terror infrastructure, the PA is putting the terrorists on the official payroll.

The terrorists aren't being disarmed -- they are being re-armed.

And the weapons the terrorists have aren't being destroyed - they are being added to the armories of the "moderate" PA.

That's right.

The Oslo agreements detail the weapons that the PA can hold, but the list doesn't matter.

Anything the PA ostensibly "confiscates" -- including anti-aircraft missiles, anti-tank missiles, rockets, etc. -- end up in the PA's armories.

This isn't theoretical. When Hamas seized the armories of the PA and its affiliated Fatah forces in the Gaza Strip they found them to be full of missiles, rockets and other equipment that the PA had no business possessing in the first place.

It could have been different.

Instead of photo ops of terrorists temporarily trading in their weapons there should be photo ops of weapons being destroyed.

As long as the compliance isn't taken seriously, the PA will remain the farce that it is.
