"A verbal contract isn't worth the paper it is written on." Sam Goldwyn could just as easily have been describing the value of the latest Amnesty International report criticizing the IDF for "unjustified killing and maltreatment of Palestinians." This is the latest instance of the international liberal elite glorying in damning Israel for having the temerity to defend itself against wicked terrorism. It also reflects the stark moral bankruptcy that lies at the heart of these cringing international NGO's.
Amnesty International is blunt when criticizing Israel. The IDF has committed war crimes. The IDF has unlawfully killed over 70 children. The IDF has used disproportionate force against unarmed civilians. The tone is accusatory.
Of course Amnesty has a proven history of condemning any nation that resolutely fights against the malignant evil that is terrorism, so Israel should take consolation that it is at least in good company!
The United States suffered the wrath of Amnesty for the way it treated the Al Qaida suspects in Cuba. Even after losing three thousand American citizens to Al Qaida murderers, Amnesty was still not prepared to accept that desperate situations require rigorous measures. The United Kingdom endured the rage of Amnesty for the way it treated IRA terrorists in Northern Ireland. Again three thousand murders of innocent people across thirty years were never taken into account by these self-appointed moral guardians at Amnesty.
The common thread running through these ritualistic Amnesty condemnations is the bizarre belief that a State must always apply the kid gloves when treating barbarians that are intent on killing innocent people. In this perverse manner, the sanctity of human life is placed secondary to the primary importance of pretentious and ill-defined "human rights."
Amnesty conveniently forgets about the "human rights" of Israelis to be able to go shopping, to go to discos and parties, to hold a family celebration without the prospect of being blown into eternity by a demented Palestinian bomber.
A good example of this sickening double standard is revealed in the previous Amnesty report "Without distinction; attacks on civilians by Palestinian armed groups." In this, Amnesty makes it clear that some Palestinians are involved in "the systematic pursuit of an explicit policy to attack (Israeli) civilians." Indeed in a very rare moment of candor it suggests that the brutal slaughter of Israelis by these Palestinian terrorists may constitute "war crimes."
Assuming this is true, what does Amnesty then suggest that the Israeli government should do to protect its people from these unprovoked acts of murder? Silence. How does Amnesty International recommend the IDF cope with cells of these psychopathic Palestinian terrorists living in heavily built up areas? Silence.
It is obvious that Amnesty International functions as a sort of global palliative for guilty leftist liberals. Amnesty intrudes into national and international disputes where its ignorance of the issues involved is only exceeded by its arrogance.
The responsibility for the loss of innocent Palestinians life lies entirely with Yasser Arafat and his legions of terror. By conducting a guerrilla warfare campaign in heavily populated areas Palestinians guarantee that the IDF will inevitably kill the innocent. This is a price they make their own people pay - banking on the stupidity of guilt ravaged liberals to excuse such malice.
Irene Khan, Secretary General of Amnesty International has piously declared that "It is time to stop playing politics with peoples lives and suffering" She should take her own advice! When it comes to how Israel should deal with this wretched Amnesty International perhaps Sam Goldwyn should have the last word. "Gentlemen," he said, "include me out."
