A poem for people who don't live in Israel

The Hague
By Helen Bar-Lev   February 23, 2004

Okay
You pompous
Self righteous
People sitting in the Hague
Judging us coldly
Mathematically calculating
Our needs on the very day
Yet again we bury
Our dead
While we struggle
To gain control
Yet again

How dare you judge us
If you don't live amongst us
Walk our streets
Where death will dance for you
And sirens will serenade you
And the pavements will be blood red
In honor of your visit and our dead

Come feel our love
For this Land of ours
Feel our pain
Where has appeasement
Gotten you
Not all that long ago?
Please
Think again
What you are doing
Is insane

By-the-way
I hear you have a few problems
In Holland
These days
Turks and Moroccans
My friends say
Nothing very serious
Just a little scrape
Now and again
And another woman
Passion killing
Every day
Or two
They say

But of course that's you
And obviously
It's none of our business
What you do

So why take your precious Dutch time
And money
And worry your tall fair heads
Over what we are doing
To protect our children?

What kind of game
Do you pretend to play
With our lives?

Shame I say
Shame
Shame
Shame
