Mordechai's warning
By Dr. Aaron Lerner   March 25, 2005

"For if you do indeed maintain silence at this time, deliverance will come to the Jews from another place - but you and your father's house will perish, and who knows if you have not attained your royal position for a time like this" [Esther 4:14]

Esther heeded Mordechai's words and risked her life to save the Jewish People from Haman's deadly scheme.

If the Sharon team wins the votes next week, history will note that it wasn't because they convinced the Members of Knesset from the national camp of the efficacy of their program but instead because they successfully exploited the narrow self-interest of the MKs.

Unfortunately, it is far from clear if the Israeli politicians who will be participating in the critical Knesset budget and referendum votes will be willing to risk their seats in early elections (rather than next year after a full Knesset term) to do the right thing for the nation.
