Playing into terror's hands
By Ryan Jones   July 10, 2005

British Prime Minister Tony Blair reacted to last week's terrorist assault on central London by drawing the unfortunate conclusion that current situations in the Middle East, including the still unresolved Israeli-Arab conflict, constitute the root cause of international Islamic terrorism.

Blair's colleagues at the G8 Summit backed up that assessment in a statement released Saturday.

Apparently, the leaders of the world's eight wealthiest and most powerful nations believe that appeasing and pandering to the Muslim world, first and foremost by birthing "Palestine" on ancient Jewish lands, will somehow bring to an end Islamic aggression.

Their position betrays a fundamental failure to comprehend both history and the Muslim faith.

The core tenets of Islam, which far predate Israel's current land dispute with the Palestinian Arabs or the Anglo-American occupation of Iraq, mandate global domination by the worshipers of Allah.

It is true that not every Muslim today desires to militarily conquer the world, but it is they, and not the so-called "radicals," who are failing to represent the true spirit of Islam.

The terrorists who attacked London last week could not have expected to suddenly and conclusively alter British life, as Blair and other suggested was their aim, but they could have expected to influence current British foreign policy.

Considering the success of last year's coordinated assault on Madrid's public transportation system in decisively affecting Spain's general elections, the terrorists were certainly hopeful.

And they could not have been disappointed when Blair and the G8 turned around and in a direct, if not veiled, manner blamed this type of atrocity on the continued failure to establish a Palestinian Arab state.

While the Israeli-Arab conflict is often used as an excuse for Islamic terrorism, it is just that - an excuse; an excuse for continuing to perpetrate a centuries-old war against the Judeo-Christian West that has as its ultimate goal the subjugation of all non-Muslims.

This is a religious war, a clash of civilizations not unlike those that make up much of our world's history, but which today's liberal progressive Westerners refuse to recognize.

For the Islamists, the birth of "Palestine," another way of calling the destruction of Israel, is just the first step. To them, the Jewish state is merely an extension of their Western Christian foe, not the root cause of all conflict.

To continue seeing Israel's existence and control over Judea, Samaria and Gaza as such is to ignore the realities of this battle.

It is far easier to defeat an enemy that doesn't even believe you are fighting against it. That is the enviable position in which Islam now finds itself.

For all its talk of withstanding and defeating Islamic terror, the West proved last week that it is still playing right into terror's hands.
