Dov and Rachel Kol were the quintessential Israeli couple.
A Jew from an Eastern European family, married to a woman from a Sephardic family.
They were not political.
They did not seem to identify with either side of Israel's political spectrum.
Yet when the issue came up about visiting Rachel's sister and their growing family on their farm in Ganei Tal, there was no question in their mind that they would visit as always.
One left wing friend of Dov said to him that visiting the Katif district of Gaza was a political statement, to which Dov belted out a hearty laugh.
I sat with Dov and Rachel at a circumcision ceremony for Rachel's new grand-nephew in Ganei Tal a few months ago. Since I knew them as students 30 years ago, many things had changed.
Dov only remembered my red beard and my red politics, and asked if I would come to his home soon and speak with his friends about what it was like to change one's ideas in the middle of one's life.
Rachel nodded her head in agreement, saying how important it was for people in Israel to learn from one another.
These were the Israelis murdered yesterday.
People who saw themselves as part of the people of Israel, not apart from the rest of Israel.
Dov used to teach a PR course here at the press center in Jerusalem.
His smiling good nature was the first lesson in the course.
May their memories be blessed.
